چکیده / توضیح Functional information means an encoded network of functions in living organisms from molecular signaling pathways to an organism’s behavior. It is represented by two components: code and an interpretation system, which together form a self-sustaining semantic closure. Semantic closure allows some freedom between components because small variations of the code are still interpretable. The interpretation system consists of inference rules that control the correspondence between the code and the function (phenotype) and determines the shape of the fitness landscape. The utility factor operates at multiple time scales: short-term selection drives evolution towards higher survival and reproduction rate within a given fitness landscape, and long-term selection favors those fitness landscapes that support adaptability and lead to evolutionary expansion of certain lineages. Inference rules make short-term selection possible by shaping the fitness landscape and defining possible directions of evolution, but they are under control of the long-term selection of lineages. Communication normally occurs within a set of agents with compatible interpretation systems, which I call communication system. Functional information cannot be directly transferred between communication systems with incompatible inference rules. Each biological species is a genetic communication system that carries unique functional information together with inference rules that determine evolutionary directions and constraints. This view of the relation between utility and inference can resolve the conflict between realism/positivism and pragmatism. Realism overemphasizes the role of inference in evolution of human knowledge because it assumes that logic is embedded in reality. Pragmatism substitutes usefulness for truth and therefore ignores the advantage of inference. The proposed concept of evolutionary pragmatism rejects the idea that logic is embedded in reality; instead, inference rules are constructed within each communication system to represent reality, and they evolve towards higher adaptability on a long time scale.

چکیده / توضیح The convergence of biomedical and information technology holds the potential to alter the discourses of identity, or as is argued here, to turn us inside out. The advent of digital networks makes it possible to ‘see inside’ people in ways not anticipated and thus create new performance arenas for the expression of identity. Drawing on the ideas of Butler and Foucault and theories of performativity, this paper examines a new context for human-computer interaction and articulates potentially disturbing issues with monitoring health rather than wellbeing. It argues that by adopting explicitly social framings we can see beyond the idea of medical interventions for health to recognize the political implications of the new categorizations and their implementation in code. In the process, it critiques traditional ways of understanding machine-body relations within the field of technology design.

چکیده / توضیح Geospatial data base creation for landslide-hazard mapping is often an almost inhibitive activity. This has been the reason that for quite some time landslide-hazard analysis was modeled on the basis of spatially related factors. This paper presents the use of fuzzy logic to landslide-hazard analysis in the Penang Island, Malaysia, using remote sensing data and a geographic information system (GIS). To achieve the goal, a data-derived model (frequency ratio) and a knowledge-derived model (fuzzy operator) were combined for landslide-hazard analysis. Landslide locations within the study areas were identified by interpreting aerial photographs, satellite images and field surveys. The nine factors that influence landslide occurrence were extracted from the database and the frequency ratio coefficient for each factor was computed. Using the factors and the identified landslide, the fuzzy membership values were calculated. Then fuzzy algebraic operators were applied to the fuzzy membership values for landslide-hazard mapping. Finally, the produced map was verified by comparing with existing landslide locations for calculating prediction accuracy. Among the fuzzy operators, in the case in which the gamma operator (λ = 0.8) showed the best accuracy (80%) while the case in which the fuzzy or operator was applied showed the worst accuracy (56%).

چکیده / توضیح The proposed methodology relies on the fuzzy nine-intersection matrix which is a generalization of the crisp four-intersection matrix for topological similarity computing. The similarity computation between 3D fuzzy matrix and 3D crisp nine-intersection matrix enables the decision variables to be derived. Decision variables, which are used for deducing and drawing conclusion, are consisted of semantic parts and quantifiers (type and strength of relations). Since these variables are dependent on the boundary directly, it is essential to present an efficient method for defining 3D fuzzy boundary. So, in this paper, we complete the information about how we can define fuzzy boundaries between two 3D phenomena and present a new procedure for simulation of 3D spatial topology in a deductive geographic information system (GIS). Therefore, a fuzzy knowledge-base system and an inference engine will be shown results for deduction in GIS environment.

چکیده / توضیح Recent advanced performance of low-cost Global Positioning System (GPS) and GPS-enabled cell phones has contributed a great deal to the development of location-aware services and systems. High-speed broadband technology has promoted collaborative projects such as OpenStreetMap or other User Generated Contents services. In this research, a Web-based prototype system for GPS track log and point of interest (POI) management was developed to archive a collaborative framework in field surveys. The main function of the system can be separated into three parts: data collection, data management, and data quality enhancement. The system supports real-time data collection for the future ubiquitous environment and also can monitor real-time GPS positions. This research shows functionalities that can minimize GPS errors using Dilution of Precision filtering and data quality enhancing techniques using the Douglas-Peucker algorithm and PgRouting. The research introduces a system that provides an interoperable framework in which to work with other geospatial services through open geospatial standards.

چکیده / توضیح In this paper, discrete time model reference control schemes for practical milling using different discretization of the continuous-time plant are presented. First, a basic controller scheme is addressed where a fractional order hold with pre-fixed value of the gain is used. Secondly, a multi-model scheme, which outputs different discretization in parallel with the continuous-time milling system transfer function under a fractional order hold (FROH) of correcting β ∈ [−1, 1], is dealt with. Then, an intelligent design framework is designed as a supervisory scheme with two hierarchical levels in order to find the most appropriate value for the gain β. For choosing the value of β, a tracking performance index is designed. It evaluates each pre-defined discretization of the continuous time milling transfer function and the scheme chooses the one with the smallest value of the index in order to generate the real control input to the plant. Two different methods of adjusting this value are presented and discussed. The first one selects a β-value among a fixed pre-defined set of possible values, while the second one the value of β is updated by adding or subtracting a small quantity.

چکیده / توضیح Robot kinematics calibration is of great significance for improving robot absolute pose accuracy, which can be divided into modelbased and non-parametric kinematics calibration. For model-based kinematics calibration, kinematics calibration modeling, pose measurement of end-effector, kinematics parameters calibration and error compensation are systematically analyzed. And with the increasing demand for autonomy, the autonomous kinematics calibration is introduced. On the other hand, research status of nonparametric kinematics calibration is elaborated, the advantages and disadvantage of which are discussed respectively. On the basis, comprehensive and organized description and summarization of the three kinds of calibrations are given. Overall, aiming at robot kinematics calibration, existing achievements are summarized, a typical calibration process is carried out and calibration precautions are detailed, then calibration results of various methods are compared and analyzed. Finally, existing problems in kinematics calibration are analyzed and development prospects are presented.

چکیده / توضیح The task of map-matching consists of finding a correspondence between a geographical point or sequence of points (e.g. obtained from GPS) and a given map. Due to many reasons, namely the noisy input data and incomplete or inaccurate maps, such a task is not trivial and can affect the validity of applications that depend on it. This includes any Transport Research projects that rely on post-hoc analysis of traces (e.g. via Floating Car Data). In this article, we describe an off-line map-matching algorithm that allows us to handle incomplete map databases. We test and compare this with other approaches and ultimately provide guidelines for use within other applications. This project is provided as open source.
