چکیده / توضیح | This paper presents a fusion-based neural network (NN) classification algorithm for 40-Hz auditory steady state response (ASSR) ensemble averaged signals which were recorded from eight human subjects for observing sleep patterns (wakefulness W 0 and deep sleep N 3 or slow wave sleep SWS). In SWS, sensitivity to pain is the lowest relative to other sleep stages and arousal needs stronger stimuli. 40-Hz ASSR signals were extracted by averaging over 900 sweeps on a 30-s window. Signals generated during N 3 deep sleep state show similarities to those produced when general anesthesia is given to patients during clinical surgery. Our experimental results show that the automatic classification system used identifies sleep states with an accuracy rate of 100% when the training and test signals come from the same subjects while its accuracy is reduced to 97.6%, on average, when signals are used from different training and test subjects. Our results may lead to future classification of consciousness and wakefulness of patients with 40-Hz ASSR for observing the depth and effects of general anesthesia (DGA). |

چکیده / توضیح | In mobile ad hoc network (MANET), the most important issue is to provide a stable and reliable route for the uninterrupted communication. In order to overcome these issues, in this paper, we propose a stable and energy-efficient routing technique. In the proposed method, quality of service (QoS) monitoring agents collect and calculate the link reliability metrics such as link expiration time (LET), probabilistic link reliable time (PLRT), link packet error rate (LPER) and link received signal strength (LRSS). In addition, residual battery power (RBP) is implemented to maintain the energy efficiency in the network. Finally, route selection probability (RSP) is calculated based on these estimated parameters using fuzzy logic. Simulation results show that the proposed routing technique improves the packet delivery ratio and reduces the energy consumption. |

چکیده / توضیح | Macrocell and small cell deployments and self-organizing network (SON) techniques work together to increase indoor cellular network capacity and ensure better quality of service (QoS). As a consequence of uneven local user densities and temporal or spatial fluctuations of traffic, the network may suffer overload situations, which partially degrades network performance. Load balancing self-optimization introduces automatic and intelligent mechanisms to tune network parameters in order to improve the overall cellular network performance. This paper proposes novel load balancing methods based on fuzzy logic controllers (FLC) that evaluate temporarily overloaded situations and resize cell coverage areas by an adaptive process of adjusting cell transmission power. To accomplish this goal, classical network indicators are analyzed (e.g., call blocking ratio, available radio resources) while a novel and simple, although powerful, indicator (not mentioned in the literature yet) is additionally proposed as the system input. This indicator is related to the maximum allowed number of users in a femtocell. The proposed methods have been evaluated and compared with the literature in a realistic scenario. |

چکیده / توضیح | In this study, dynamic traffic control strategies, namely dynamic ramp metering and dynamic speed limit control, have been examined through microscopic traffic simulation based on site measurements. In this context, the traffic flow data at a particular highway intersection have been analyzed to determine the pattern of the traffic. Then, the traffic model has been built in a traffic micro-simulation software and calibrated with the field data. The foci of the study are to measure the efficiency of the dynamic traffic control strategies and to compare it with the uncontrolled case considering various performance indicators such as total travel time, average delay time per vehicle, and average number of stops per vehicle. For the dynamic ramp metering strategies, the ALINEA (Asservissement Lineaire d’Entree Autoroutiere - French for Linear Utilization for Highway Entrances) control algorithm is implemented with different fixed-time cycle lengths. It has been observed that various ramp metering implementations decreased the average delay time per vehicle up to 30%. The dynamic speed limit control strategies are set according to the occupancy rates that are measured at the bottleneck downstream. The examined speed limit control strategies decreased the average delay time per vehicle to around 7%. The results also revealed that the implemented dynamic traffic control strategies help alleviate congestion by increasing the capacity of the bottleneck section. |

چکیده / توضیح | In a cellular mobile system (CMS), the service area is divided into cells, each of which has numerous channels, which are shared by two types of call - new calls and handoff calls. Giving a higher priority to handoff calls than new calls is common practice. However, giving too much priority to handoff calls will result to excessive blocking of new calls. This work firstly proposes a distributed dynamic channel assignment and reassignment (DDCAR) scheme to satisfy three types of constraint - co-channel constraint (CCC), adjacent channel constraint (ACC), and co-site constraint (CSC), simultaneously. The purpose is to minimize the number of available channels that become unavailable for the assignment to new calls and to maximize the number of unavailable channels that become available for release when calls complete. To provide a higher priority to handoff calls, a fuzzy call admission control (FCAC) scheme, combined with the DDCAR, is proposed herein for implementation at the base station. A 7 × 7 CMS with two traffic patterns is employed as the test example. The test results reveal that the FCAC scheme significantly reduces the dropping probability of handoff calls at the cost of increasing the blocking probability of new calls to an acceptable level. |

چکیده / توضیح | In remote sensing analysis, automatic extraction of road network from satellite or aerial images can be a most needed approach for efficient road database creation, refinement, and updating. In this paper, a method for automatic extraction of road centerline from high resolution satellite image is proposed. The proposed work consists of three stages: segmentation of road region, connected component-based operations used to extract the connected road component from segmented road region, and removal of unwanted non-road pixels using morphological operation. The proposed algorithm is implemented on various satellite images, and the results are given in this work. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by comparing the results with ground truth road map as reference data, and performance measures such as completeness, correctness, and quality are calculated. The average value of completeness, correctness, and quality of various images are 90%, 96%, and 87%, respectively. These measures prove that the proposed work yields road network very closer to reference road map. The proposed method yields very good result for noisy image also, and it proved that the proposed method is insensitive for noise. Performance measures of the proposed work are compared with other methods, and this comparison proves that the proposed method yields very good results than other methods. |

چکیده / توضیح | The aim of this work is to propose a new river water quality index using fuzzy logic. The proposed fuzzy index combines quality indicators’ prescribed thresholds extracted mainly from the Moroccan and the Quebec water legislations. The latter is reputed for its strict water quality assessment. The proposed index combines six indicators, and not only does it exhibit a tool that accounts for the discrepancy between the two base indices, but also provides a quantifiable score for the determined water quality. These classifications with a membership grade can be of a sound support for decision-making, and can help assign each section of a river a gradual quality sub-objective to be reached. |

چکیده / توضیح | This paper proposes to study the concept of similarity and its use in the design of fuzzy system. The concept of similarity relation is effectively used in fuzzification of crisp values. Similarity index is used in measuring approximate (graded) equality of fuzzy sets over a given universe of discourse. It is proposed to use such an index in modifying a fuzzy relation. Different similarity measures in the literature are elucidated, and a comparative study between different pairs of fuzzy sets is presented. One of these similarity measures has been used successfully in rule selection and modification of a fuzzy relation. In the process, a number of modification schemes based on different logic have been extensively studied for different reasoning mechanisms based on the same data and results are tabulated. A specificity-based approach to defuzzification is also presented, which is found to be suitable for similarity-based fuzzy systems. The results are illustrated with the behaviour of a direct current (DC) shunt motor. |

A comprehensive study for the identification of landslide hazard zones using landslide frequency ratio and fuzzy logic in GIS environment has been presented for the Lachung valley, Sikkim, India, where a number of hydroelectric projects are proposed. |
